Rant: CSS Preprocessor constants

So this is a pattern I keep seeing over and over again when using LESS or SASS for my CSS processing and I'm finding it frustrating.

I'll often see something like

@black: #000000;

I'm not understanding this. Why define black? Black is black always, to me, it should be

@site-background: #000000;

Something more meaningful and useful. Initially it doesn't look like much change, but if you need to rebrand the page (or even just slightly tweak the colours, it means you aren't saying that one colour is another (black is white for example).
